Cannon Falls ECFE Winter/Spring 2024

What is ECFE?

We believe that a parent is a child’s first and most important “teacher.”
To help in this role, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) offers a
variety of classes, events, and resources that teach, support and
strengthen families with children from birth to pre-kindergarten age.
Parents participate in hands-on learning activities with their children
and support each other by sharing their successes and challenges.

What does a typical ECFE class include?
? Parent-Child Activity Time: Families explore a classroom filled
with developmentally appropriate play and learning activities
planned by an early childhood teacher.
? Parent Discussion Time: Parents meet with a parent educator to
share experiences, and gain support and information about child
development, parenting, family life, and available resources.
? Children’s Activity Time: Children learn and play with the early
childhood teacher and paraprofessional, and develop social skills
as they interact with each other. This occurs during the parent
discussion time.

Where are ECFE classes held?
ECFE classes are held at the Cannon Community Center (CCC), 120 State
St. W., Cannon Falls. Street parking is available; the parking lot is not
available for ECFE use.

What happens when Cannon Falls Schools closes, starts late, or closes
early due to weather conditions, etc?

When Cannon Falls Schools are closed or are in distance learning mode
due to weather or other circumstances (power outage, etc.) ECFE is
cancelled. If there is a late start, there is no morning ECFE; an early
dismissal results in no evening ECFE. If a class cannot be rescheduled,
families with be offered a voucher to use on future events.

Weekly Multi-Age Parent & Child Classes

Class time begins with an optional 30 minutes of large motor playtime, followed by circle time, crafts, snacks, free playtime, and parent discussion.

Multi-age classes are for ages one to pre-kindergarten.  Children under the age of 15 months will accompany their parents to parent discussion time.  The class size is a minimum of 4 children and a maximum of 10 children.
